ENGN 0031 - Honors Introduction to Engineering |
An introduction to various engineering disciplines, thought processes, and issues. Topics include computing in engineering, engineering design, optimization, and estimation. Case studies in engineering are used to illustrate engineering fields and scientific principles, including in-depth studies of statics. Laboratories and design projects are included. The section of the Honors course will focus on scientific programming using MATLAB with applications in statics. Students pursuing concentrations in Mechanical, Electrical or Materials Engineering who complete the Honors course successfully may substitute an approved Engineering or Computer Science course in place of CSCI 0040. Prerequisite: one of the following: MATH 0100, 0170, 0180, 0190, 0200, 0350, 0520, 0540, which may be taken concurrently.
