An investigation of the study of language and language behavior. Centers on the study of variation in language as seen in the social and cultural context of language use. This course will feature practice in writing fictional and dramatic dialogue based on real-life discourse. Presupposes some familiarity with basic linguistics (AN 80, CG 41, or equivalent).
